In July 2013 I had the privilege to work with Moira West on my very first styled shoot. I was ecstatic when she agreed to do the photographs – I am such a big fan of her work! She just has an amazing talent, and it really is so much fun to work with her.
The shoot was all about the 1920’s – this is my era for sure! It is all about the glamour and the stylish outfits. We really wanted to showcase all that we love about this era.
The 1920’s is such a fascinating time to me. Not only because of their fabulous style, but also because of the rich history it has. In 1918 World War I ended. This brought on the ‘Roaring 20’s’, and era where freedom and victory was celebrated. Fashion went from dull work overalls women had to wear, and uniforms men had to wear to fashion items oozing luxury and style. It really was all about a revolution, and that is why I love it so much. I love that you can see how what happens in reality reflects in the fashion world. The people were tired of war, and any positive change was welcomed with open arms.
Besides the history, watching The Great Gatsby just really opened up this world so much more for me. I loved the over-the-top details and all the design aspects of it.
To put this shoot together we were really inspired by true Gatsby style. We love the geometric architecture from the 1920’s and also concentrated on all the lavish details. Specifically looking at details like golds, layers, textures and luxury. We hope you enjoy the photographs as much as we do!
